Anubis Spirit Vessel Necklace for Protection and Spiritual Power, Bound Egyptian God Companion
🜍 ANPU — Guardian of the Sacred Passage · Anubis Spirit Vessel of Protection, Truth & Transformation · for the one standing between the life that ended and the life not yet begun
TL;DR — Anpu is Anubis, one of ancient Egypt's great funerary gods: guardian of the necropolis, protector of the dead, lord of embalming and attendant at the weighing of the heart. His current is for the keeper standing at a threshold — an ending, transition, difficult truth or period in which the old structure of life has changed but the new one has not yet become familiar. Anpu does not represent pretending darkness is harmless. He represents dignity inside it: protection, honest judgment, reverence for what must be laid to rest and the courage to continue when the road ahead is not yet clear.
Meet Anpu.
There are passages in life where the old door has already closed and the next one has not yet opened.
The relationship is over, but the life after it does not feel real yet.
A place once called home has been left.
An identity that carried you for years no longer fits, while whatever replaces it remains unfinished.
Something has ended clearly enough that returning would be false, but moving forward still requires crossing ground that feels unfamiliar.
Anpu belongs to that territory.
He is the Egyptian god better known through the Greek form of his name, Anubis, one of the most enduring guardians of death, burial and sacred transition in ancient Egyptian religion.
His image is unmistakable.
The black canid.
The jackal-headed man.
The watcher beside the mummy.
The god who stands where the living have done everything they can and another kind of passage must begin.
Ancient Egyptians associated Anubis directly with embalming and the protection of the necropolis. He bore titles such as Lord of the Sacred Land or Hallowed Ground, and funerary imagery repeatedly places him beside the deceased during the dangerous transition between death and renewed existence.
Later funerary scenes give him another extraordinary office.
At the judgment of the dead, Anubis tends the balance.
The heart is weighed against maat — truth, order and rightness — while Osiris presides over the judgment.
This combination gives Anpu a current unlike that of a simple protective spirit.
He guards.
He prepares.
He examines what is true.
And then he allows the passage to continue.
That is the Anpu represented here.
🖤 WHAT ANPU IS
Anpu is not historically the “Opener of the Ways.”
That title belongs properly to Wepwawet, another ancient Egyptian canid deity whose name itself means Opener of the Ways.
Anubis possesses his own extraordinary offices and does not need another god's title.
He is the guardian of the sacred ground.
The protector associated with the mummy and necropolis.
The divine embalmer.
The canid god standing beside the balance in the Hall of Judgment.
Within our house interpretation, those traditional offices develop naturally into a current of thresholds, difficult endings, discernment, protection, remembrance and transformation.
The connection is not arbitrary.
Embalming itself exists because the Egyptians did not understand death merely as disappearance.
The deceased had to be prepared.
Protected.
Named.
Preserved.
Ritually transformed.
Judged.
Then admitted into another mode of existence.
Anpu therefore belongs to transformation in the oldest possible sense.
Not motivational reinvention.
The solemn knowledge that some passages require one version of life to be properly laid down before another can begin.
🧿 WHO ANPU IS
Anpu is solemn, patient, watchful and exceedingly difficult to hurry.
His current does not feel theatrical.
Within our practice, he has the character of a guardian who has stood beside too many serious thresholds to become excited merely because a human being is frightened by one.
That does not make him indifferent.
Quite the opposite.
Anpu's protection is attentive because he understands vulnerability.
The mummy cannot defend itself.
The grave cannot speak when somebody violates it.
The deceased entering judgment occupies a state in which ordinary earthly status has ceased to matter.
The pharaoh and the common person ultimately face the same question of maat.
What is true.
What has been done.
What can accompany the soul further.
Within our house current, this gives Anpu a remarkable intolerance for self-deception.
Not because he is cruel.
Because a threshold cannot be crossed honestly while pretending you are still standing somewhere you left months ago.
Anpu favors the truth that allows movement.

🜂 ABILITIES ASSOCIATED WITH ANPU'S CURRENT
🛡️ SACRED PROTECTION — Protection belongs directly to Anubis's historical identity. His current centers on guarded thresholds, respectful boundaries and the protection of what is vulnerable, sacred or undergoing transition.
⚖️ THE WEIGHER OF THE HEART — Anubis is prominently shown attending the weighing of the heart in Egyptian funerary imagery. Within our house current, this becomes uncompromising discernment: comparing what we wish were true against what our actions, patterns and circumstances actually reveal.
🌑 THE SACRED PASSAGE — Anpu's strongest transformational symbolism comes from his funerary office. He represents the difficult interval in which one condition has ended and another has not yet fully begun, giving the keeper a framework for crossing rather than remaining permanently at the threshold.
🕯️ THE LAMP IN THE DARK — The lamp is our house symbol rather than an ancient Egyptian attribute of Anubis. It represents enough clarity for the next step without demanding that the entire road become visible before movement begins.
🖤 THE HONORED ENDING — Anpu does not treat every ending as failure. His current favors giving what has ended an appropriate place in memory rather than continually trying to resurrect it merely because letting go feels frightening.
👁️ TRUTH & DISCERNMENT — The weighing scene makes truth inseparable from Anpu's current. He represents careful examination of motives, patterns and decisions, especially where self-deception would make transition easier in the short term but more difficult later.
⚰️ GUARDIAN OF THE DEAD — Anubis belongs intimately to tombs, mummification and the care of the dead. Within personal practice, his current naturally suits remembrance, ancestral reflection, funerary symbolism and respectful contemplation of mortality.
🌿 DEATH & RENEWAL — Ancient Egyptian funerary religion was profoundly concerned with renewed existence after death. Anpu therefore carries a genuine historical relationship with transformation, though we use it symbolically for life transitions rather than claiming literal control over worldly outcomes.
🚪 THE THRESHOLD KEPT — Not every door should be reopened simply because the space beyond the new one remains uncertain. Anpu's current favors protecting the boundary between what has been properly concluded and what is now beginning.
👑 LORD OF THE SACRED GROUND — One of Anubis's authentic historical identities concerns guardianship of the necropolis. Within our current, sacred ground means whatever has been deliberately set apart and deserves to be treated with gravity rather than casual intrusion.
⚖️ WHAT THE OLD EGYPTIANS GIVE ANPU
The historical Anubis is already far more compelling than modern invention needs him to be.
✦ ANCIENT EGYPTIAN INPW — “Anubis” is the Greek form of the Egyptian divine name conventionally transliterated as Inpw or Anpu in modern renderings.
✦ GOD OF EMBALMING — Anubis was intimately associated with embalming and the ritual care of the deceased. Egyptian funerary imagery frequently shows him tending or ritually attending the mummy.
✦ PROTECTOR OF THE NECROPOLIS — He bore the epithet often translated as Lord of the Sacred or Hallowed Ground, identifying him as guardian of burial places.
✦ THE BLACK CANID — Anubis appears either as a black canid or as a man with a black canid head. The black color does not simply imitate natural jackal fur; it carries funerary and regenerative symbolism associated with Egypt's fertile black soil and renewed life.
✦ GUARDIAN OF THE MUMMY — Anubis amulets and images belonged naturally to funerary contexts because of his protective relationship with the preserved body.
✦ THE WEIGHING OF THE HEART — In Book of the Dead imagery, Anubis attends and operates the balance during judgment, weighing the deceased's heart against the principle of maat.
✦ OSIRIS PRESIDES — Anubis is not the supreme judge acting alone. Osiris presides over the judgment, while Thoth commonly records or presents its result and Anubis tends the balance.
✦ MAAT MATTERS — The judgment does not simply concern whether someone “feels pure.” Maat represents truth, justice, right order and the proper structure of the cosmos.
✦ WEPWAWET IS THE OPENER — The title “Opener of the Ways” belongs specifically to Wepwawet, another canid god. The two can be visually difficult to distinguish in some objects, but they are not simply interchangeable names for the same deity.
✦ ANUBIS NEEDS NO BORROWED TITLE — His own offices — embalmer, guardian, necropolis protector and attendant of judgment — give him one of the strongest threshold identities in the Egyptian pantheon.
🖤 THE WEIGHING OF THE HEART
Few images from Egyptian religion are as immediately powerful.
The deceased enters the Hall of Judgment.
The heart — regarded by ancient Egyptians as a center of thought, memory, emotion and moral character — is placed upon the scales.
Against it stands maat.
Truth.
Order.
Rightness.
Anubis attends the balance.
Thoth records the result.
Osiris receives the justified dead.
The symbolism is severe.
Nothing carried in status can substitute for the heart.
No impressive title changes the weight.
No explanation can make the scale balance differently.
Within our house practice, this becomes one of Anpu's most important teachings.
The question is not simply what do I want to believe.
The question is what does the weight show.
A relationship can be loved and still be harmful.
A decision can be frightening and still be correct.
A former identity can have served faithfully and still be finished.
A person can grieve something deeply without needing to return to it.
Anpu's current belongs to that kind of truth.
Not truth used as a weapon.
Truth used as a scale.
🌿 THE GREEN FIELD
Malachite gives this piece an unusually beautiful connection to ancient Egyptian funerary symbolism.
Green — wadj — was strongly associated with vegetation, life, regeneration and resurrection in Egyptian thought.
Early Egyptian texts could describe the blessed realm of renewed existence using imagery translated as a “field of malachite,” while the much more familiar later image is the Field of Reeds.
The expression matters because malachite was not simply another attractive stone.
Its green belonged to the vocabulary of renewal.
Osiris himself could be represented with green skin because the dead king was also the one who returned to life.
The crops emerge.
The Nile renews the soil.
What disappears beneath the earth can emerge green again.
That cycle makes malachite exceptionally suited to Anpu.
His current does not stop at death.
He stands precisely where death is being prepared for transformation.
The stone therefore carries two halves of his symbolism at once.
The grave.
And the green beyond it.
💎 THE MALACHITE VESSEL
This vessel uses natural malachite set in worked sterling silver.
Malachite was known and used in ancient Egypt. It served as a source of green pigment, including in cosmetics, and the mineral's color participated in the broader Egyptian association between green, life and regeneration. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}
Its natural banding makes the stone especially appropriate for Anpu visually.
Dark green.
Light green.
Curving layers.
Lines that resemble pathways through a landscape seen from above.
Within our house current, those bands became the passage itself.
A route that turns.
Disappears.
Returns.
Continues through colors that remain recognizably part of the same stone.
The malachite is not an ancient “Anubis stone” in any simple fixed sense.
We do not need to invent that association.
Its historical relationship with Egyptian material culture and green regenerative symbolism already gives the vessel extraordinary depth.
🌑 ANPU'S APPEARANCE
Anpu appears in traditional Egyptian iconography as either a black canid or a human figure with a black canid head.
Within our house imagery, we preserve that form rather than reinventing him as a gothic fantasy king.
He appears tall and composed, with the black head of the sacred canid above a body dressed in restrained Egyptian linen and gold.
His attention is usually directed outward.
Toward the door.
Toward the tomb.
Toward the balance.
Toward whatever lies beyond the current boundary.
Gold appears sparingly.
The visual power comes primarily from black against pale linen and the deep green of malachite.
Within dreams and visualization, he belongs to tomb entrances, desert margins after sunset, stone corridors, balances, dark water, burial chambers and the moment immediately before a doorway is crossed.
He is not surrounded by chaos.
He is usually the stillest figure present.
🖤 ANPU'S NATURE
Anpu is solemn without being cold.
His current does not romanticize darkness, and he has little patience for making suffering more dramatic simply because darkness fits the aesthetic.
If something hurts, it hurts.
If something ended, it ended.
If something remains uncertain, then uncertainty is the truthful condition for now.
He does not require a grand spiritual meaning to be assigned immediately.
That would be another way of refusing the threshold.
Anpu also distinguishes grief from captivity.
To honor something lost does not require building a permanent home inside the moment it disappeared.
Ancient Egyptian funerary culture understood this beautifully.
The dead were remembered carefully.
Named.
Fed symbolically.
Protected.
Preserved.
But the entire ritual system existed because movement still had to occur.
Death required passage.
Memory and continuation were not enemies.
That remains one of Anpu's deepest teachings in our current.
Carry what deserves carrying.
Leave what belongs in the tomb.
🕯️ OFFERINGS & HONOURINGS
• Clean water
• Frankincense or myrrh
• Bread or grain
• Black, gold or deep green candles
• Malachite
• An image of Anubis or the sacred canid
• A written truth placed beside the vessel
• Remembering an ancestor or deceased loved one by name
• Cleaning and treating a burial place respectfully where appropriate
• Closing something properly rather than leaving it half-ended because finality feels uncomfortable
• Sitting quietly at dusk, when day itself occupies a threshold
Anpu's strongest honoring is truthful reverence.
Do not rush the passage.
Do not pretend it is not happening.
Walk it properly.
🗝️ FIRST CONTACT — THE SACRED PASSAGE
At dusk, place Anpu's vessel beside a cup of clean water and a black, gold or deep green candle.
Frankincense or myrrh may be used if desired.
Say:
“I am [your name]. Anpu, guardian of the sacred ground and watcher beside the balance, I approach your current with respect.
Let this piece remind me to meet transitions honestly, to protect what is sacred and to recognize what has truly ended without fearing what has not yet taken form.
Let me weigh my own heart without cruelty and without deception.
May I carry forward what remains true, give proper rest to what has finished and walk the passage with dignity even when I cannot yet see its far side.”
Remain quietly for several minutes.
Then write two short lines.
What is finished.
What remains alive.
Do not force a third line describing what comes next.
Sometimes the threshold deserves to remain a threshold for a while.
🌙 HOW ANPU SPEAKS IN SYMBOL
Anpu's symbolic language belongs naturally to canids, tombs, scales, black and gold, green stone, desert paths, doorways, funerary imagery, incense and places where one condition becomes another.
Dreams, journaling, tarot, pendulum and automatic writing may be incorporated into personal practice where meaningful.
Within our interpretation, his symbolism often concerns endings and truthful weight.
A door that will not reopen.
A path through a cemetery.
A balance.
An old room emptied.
An object belonging to somebody who has died.
A recurring realization that the same chapter is already finished despite repeated attempts to continue it.
The image of something green appearing beside stone.
These belong naturally to Anpu.
Dreams may be recorded and reflected upon without assuming every image is a literal supernatural message.
Anpu's current favors discernment too much for that.
🌑 LIVING WITH ANPU
Living with Anpu's current means becoming more respectful toward endings.
Modern life often treats every ending as something that must be repaired immediately.
A relationship ends and another must begin.
A career closes and a new identity must be announced.
A difficult chapter finishes and somebody immediately asks what lesson was learned from it.
Anpu allows a different rhythm.
The tomb exists.
There is a period for preparing what has ended.
A period for naming it truthfully.
A period for remembering.
A period for judgment.
Then comes movement.
This makes transition less frantic.
The keeper becomes less tempted to drag every former identity into the next chapter simply because leaving it behind feels like betrayal.
Some things deserve gratitude rather than continuation.
Some relationships belong in memory rather than the future.
Some versions of the self kept you alive long enough to reach a place where they are no longer necessary.
Anpu knows how to honor the dead without confusing reverence with resurrection.
That is why his current belongs so naturally to transformation.
He does not promise that every passage becomes easy.
He represents the dignity of continuing through it.
🌹 A WORD FROM SERAPHINE
Anpu stood at the doorway.
That is the image I kept.
Not because I believe every impression during ritual work needs to become historical fact, but because it was so perfectly consistent with the god himself that it shaped the entire piece.
Ancient Egyptian imagery does not need embellishment here.
Anubis is already standing beside the body.
Beside the tomb.
Beside the scale.
At the places where one condition has ended and something serious must happen before another can begin.
I originally wanted to call him the Opener of the Way.
Then the sources corrected me.
That name belongs to Wepwawet.
And I am glad they did, because once I stopped borrowing another god's title I understood Anpu more clearly.
He is not the one racing ahead opening every road.
He is the one who remains with what must be prepared before the road can continue.
That is far more intimate.
There are periods in life when nobody can tell you exactly what the next world will look like.
The old one has still ended.
Anpu's current does not fill that uncertainty with promises.
It places a guardian beside the threshold.
A scale before the heart.
Green beyond the black.
And enough dignity to take the next step when it actually becomes time.
That is the Anpu I wanted here.
— Seraphine
🜏 THE ANPU CURRENT
Anpu is Anubis, an authentic ancient Egyptian deity rather than a private spirit created by our house.
His historical offices form the foundation of this piece: embalming, protection of the mummy and necropolis, guardianship of sacred burial ground and his prominent role in the weighing of the heart.
Our house interpretation develops those offices through life transitions, truthful discernment, remembrance, endings and the symbolic passage from one state into another.
We do not present “Opener of the Ways” as an authentic title of Anubis.
That title belongs to Wepwawet.
We also distinguish ancient material from our own imagery.
The lamp in the dark is ours.
The sacred ground is ancient.
The reflective use of dreams is ours.
The weighing of the heart is ancient.
The personal symbolism of laying an old identity to rest is ours.
Anubis's relationship with death, burial, protection and judgment is ancient enough that very little invention is necessary.
That is the strength of this vessel.
The old Egyptians placed Anubis beside the most serious transition a human being could make.
Our piece keeps him there.
At the threshold.
Watching the balance.
Guarding what must be guarded.
And allowing what has truly ended to become the ground from which something green may eventually rise.
