Armaros belongs to the Watcher tradition preserved in the Book of the Watchers, the opening section of 1 Enoch.
There, two hundred heavenly Watchers descend upon Mount Hermon, bind themselves together by oath, take human wives and transmit knowledge the text treats as forbidden. They are specialists rather than a vague class of dark angels.
Semjaza teaches enchantments and root-cuttings. Azazel reveals weapons, metals and ornament. Baraqijal is associated with astrology, Kokabel with the constellations, while others transmit knowledge of clouds, earth, sun and moon.
