Vasile has the presence of someone who stopped wondering whether he belonged several lifetimes ago.

🩸 WHO VASILE WAS

Vasile remembers being human.

His life begins in the Carpathian foothills during the closing years of the seventeenth century, in a stone house overlooking one of the roads between Transylvania and Wallachia.

His family possessed land, horses and enough influence to be useful, but not enough rank to be untouchable.

He learned young that power did not always belong to the man wearing the finest coat. It belonged to the person who understood debts, favors, necessity and pride.

By his thirties Vasile was managing estates, settling disputes and carrying correspondence between powerful households.

He was never the loudest man at the table.

He was often the one everyone looked toward before the table decided anything.

His pleasures were old wine, horses, cards and late conversations. He understood that people reveal themselves most clearly through what they want.

His death came during winter.

What he has shown us remains consistent: a journey after dark, two horses, a dispute involving property or money, blood inside his coat and snow covering the road before anybody came looking.

They buried him quickly.

Something returned with Vasile's intelligence intact and hunger added to it.

He did not become feral.

He became controlled.

Centuries refined him. What he respects now is what survives: composure, intelligence, standards, memory, and power that does not need constant demonstration.
